Volunteers

ConnectMyVariant has many dedicated and compassionate volunteers who work with our members as Family Outreach Navigators. Family Outreach Navigators get to know members - their journey with genetic testing, and their successes and challenges with family outreach. After at least 6 hours of training on how to support members, Family Outreach Navigators work with members and variant groups to explore solutions and resources to address various types of barriers with family outreach, suggesting additional directions to consider that could expand the reach of family communication. A Family Outreach Navigator may work with members or variant groups for few months or several years, setting up video calls every 2 to 3 months or more frequently as desired.

Ashley Doyle Memborial Travel Scholarship

About the Ashley Doyle Scholarship:
Ashley Doyle was a fearless and tireless advocate for hereditary cancer prevention in general and especially for family outreach as an effective tool in hereditary cancer prevention. ConnectMyVariant has developed a scholarship to honor Ashley’s memory, support the cause that she was passionate about, and further her goal of saving lives by preventing hereditary cancer.

Scholarship Description:
Funding will be awarded annually to one or more recipients with a special interest in pursuing and developing greater knowledge and skills in hereditary cancer prevention and family outreach. Scholarship travel awards will support the ability for the recipients to receive specialized training. Funds may be used to pay for or reimburse costs associated with travel to the National Society of Genetic Counselors Annual Conference or other similar meeting for specialized genetic counseling information related to hereditary disease. Travel award funds can also be used to offset travel, meals, and lodging.
