Social Media Coordinator (Freelance/Contract)

About the Role

ConnectMyVariant is seeking a Freelance Social Media Coordinator to manage and grow our presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. This role blends content strategy, community engagement, and light design coordination to support our mission-driven communications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a monthly content calendar across all platforms
  • Research, write, and schedule original posts aligned with our genetics education mission and public health objectives
  • Source, format, and/or create graphics for social posts
  • Coordinate with our graphics designer for custom visual content as needed
  • Monitor accounts and respond to comments, messages, and community engagement within 48 hours
  • Identify and engage with relevant partner organizations, advocates, and online communities
  • Track and report on performance metrics (engagement, reach, growth) as requested
  • Stay current on platform best practices and adapt strategy accordingly
  • Coordinate social promotion with other organizational communications (newsletter, events)

Schedule & Deliverables

  • Posting cadence: Minimum of 2 posts/week on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook (scheduled via Buffer). Additional platforms may be added as determined suitable by ConnectMyVariant.
  • Content calendar: Submitted for review at least one week before posting
  • Feedback turnaround: Up to 5 business days from ConnectMyVariant
  • Revisions: Up to two rounds included in monthly fee; extensive revisions may incur added cost
  • Content approval: All posts reviewed and approved before publishing

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills and understanding of nonprofit/mission-driven communications
  • Experience creating or sourcing graphics for social media
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook best practices
  • Discretion and professionalism when engaging with the public on the organization's behalf
  • Biology science writing experience and familiarity with genetics with demonstrated ability to fact-check and ensure accuracy of published content
  • Comfort managing account access responsibly and maintaining confidentiality of internal operations, analytics, and community data

Compensation & Terms

  • Fee: $500/month, invoiced by the 5th of each month for prior month's work
  • Payment terms: Net 30 from invoice submission
  • Contract type: Independent contractor (not an employee); freelancer handles own taxes, insurance, and benefits
  • Termination: Either party may terminate with 30 days' written notice
  • IP: Content created becomes property of ConnectMyVariant; freelancer may use work samples in their portfolio
