FindMyVariant

The FindMyVariant study is now closed to enrollment.

The FindMyVariant Study was a research study that aimed to classify variants of uncertain significance by gathering family data. The study implemented a patient-driven approach to family outreach. The study was led by Dr. Brian Shirts and supported by the University of Washington, Department of Laboratory Medicine and by a Grant Innovator grant from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.

The study showed that the patient-drive approach resulted in an 8-fold increase in family outreach over prior approaches, which contributed to more rapid variant classification. Several peer-reviewed publications came from this study (PMID 303741763116310231916645).

The patient-driven approach to family outreach contributed to the development of the ConnectMyVariant project. Individuals with variants of uncertain significance who are seeking others with the same variant are welcome to sign up for ConnectMyVariant.
